Murder On The Orient Express (WIP)
A show as well renowned as this was an exercise in archetype. Our Director Karen-Jean Olds was rightly firm in this production's needs to play into what the audience already knew about the characters and story. The role of Hercule Poirot is a monumental, and beloved character, with set expectations and needs. Similarly, with the rest of the story we were dedicated to upholding this show to a particular way of doing things, everything had a reason. At the Fort Peck Summer Theatre we were able to create the experience of an Imax movie on stage
Ken Ludwig’s script came complete with named orchestral pieces for the transitions. As this prime real estate for sound design was taken, my favorite original piece was the prologue to the show. Entirely prerecorded and in the dark, it consist of I wanted the train to attack the audience, inspired by the tales of the first moviegoers rushing to get out of the way of a filmed train, it felt loud, full, and real in the 800 seat space. Combined with lights and atmospherics it was an amazing collaboration.
